Birth of StingMate®
StingMate® was started by Webb and Julie Willmott in September, 2007. The business idea came after shopping in Walmart in Destin, Fl. Webb, being a longtime pharmacist, was shopping in the Walmart pharmacy when another customer asked him if he thought Preparation-H could be used to treat his wife’s jellyfish sting. Webb, of course, advised him to go get vinegar from the food section and instructed him on proper first aid as well as aftercare. From this chance meeting with the desperate customer, the two began researching and realized that there was nothing readily available on the market and hence, the birth of StingMate®.
As health care providers, both Webb and Julie know that their is much confusion out there about first aid for jellyfish stings and wanted to develop a product that would give people peace of mind when visiting areas where jellyfish area prevalent. The public’s perceptions of jellyfish stings are ones of fear, pain, and confusion on how to treat stings. Many people have had terrible experiences and are scared to go back into the water causing some to limit their experiences at the beach. Their website, www.StingMate.com will not only sell the product but also will educate the public on all aspects of jellyfish from first aid to information on species, testimonials from product users, an ongoing blog from a jellyfish expert and many photos taken of the sea creatures. The couple plan to sell StingMate® in retail outlets worldwide.

Another use of Stingmate: I was recently stung by a large wasp. In a frantic search for anything to stop the pain I grabbed the Stingmate and poured it over the site (my finger). Immediately the pain subsided. Not the purpose for which I had purchased the product….but was very glad to have found another use of Stingmate.
